devlog: Pressing Forward


Hi folks,

I thought I'd take a little time today to post a devlog, just to try and keep you in the loop. I will try and do this once a month.

Private Dick development is alive and well. Just going a little slower than planned.


What I'm really hoping is that this is enough time to commission all the artwork I need, then I can integrate it in one big push in October/November.

Content-wise I've written out almost a  whole new case, called Red Tie. This mostly revolves around Emily but will also introduce Minty, who you see on social media. This case will unfold broadly in parallel to June's Ransom case, which you see a tiny bit of in the demo.

Next steps here are to get the CG illustrated and coded, and to improve the messaging framework enough that it can drive the case. That's a fiddly coding job I've been putting off for a while because I haven't had the headspace.

Red Tie may or may not creep into this public demo - that's a decision to take further down the line.

But what WILL make it into the demo, you ask?

Well, I've been adding a bunch of new characters and I am planning to at least introduce you to them (and I'd LOVE to introduce you to Minty in Red Tie). On Monday I'll be working with a composer on the game's soundtrack. I am REALLY excited about this - getting the right music playing behind the action is going to be such an important part of Private Dick. And I hope to add that to the demo.

I've also been working on diversifying the assets - more poses, more features, a bit more energy in the general presentation. I expect to be uploading builds with minor improvements to make the game feel a little better.

I think that's really all I can for now. When I don't have much dev-time it's hard to spend justifying it all typing into Kickstarter :)
